Service Description

Is your child navigating the ups and downs of growing up? Friendships, emotions, confidence, school, identity — it can be a lot to make sense of, and sometimes young people are expected to just “figure it out”. What is Figuring Things Out? Figuring Things Out is a small group programme designed for young people in P7 and S1, offering a calm, supportive space to talk, reflect and build confidence. It’s not about pressure or being put on the spot. It’s about having somewhere they can make sense of what’s going on in a way that feels safe and manageable. The sessions run as a 5 week block. Attending all 5 sessions is encouraged to get the most from the experience, but young people are still very welcome if they can only attend some. How it helps We’ll explore things like friendships, worries, emotions, confidence and the challenges that can come with growing up. The aim is to help young people feel more settled, more confident, and better able to understand themselves and what they’re experiencing. How sessions work Sessions run in small groups, allowing each young person to feel heard and supported. Sessions run on alternate weeks, with separate groups for boys and girls. Led by a qualified counsellor, sessions are relaxed, supportive and focused on helping young people feel more confident. A gentle, supportive approach There’s no pressure to speak before they’re ready. Some young people talk straight away, others take time — both are completely ok. The focus is on building trust, helping them feel comfortable, and supporting them at their own pace. Important to know Although led by a qualified counsellor, these are not therapy sessions. If you’d like to talk things through before booking, you’re very welcome to get in touch.
