Figuring Things Out…Teachers
The space after the strategies.
Service Description
Figuring Things Out…Teachers is a reflective conversation space led by counsellor Mike Ogden, exploring behaviour, relationships, emotional wellbeing, pressure, identity, and the realities of modern education. Most school staff have already been given the strategies. The behaviour plans. The interventions. The regulation techniques. The policies. The training. But classrooms are still emotional spaces. Children and young people still arrive carrying anxiety, stress, overwhelm, social pressure, identity struggles, trauma, disconnection, and experiences they may not yet have words for. At the same time, staff are often expected to remain calm, emotionally available, consistent, and resilient while carrying increasing pressure themselves. When behaviour systems stop fully explaining what we are seeing, it can leave professionals feeling stuck, exhausted, frustrated, or questioning themselves. These sessions create space to slow things down and think differently. Rather than focusing only on managing behaviour, conversations explore what may be happening underneath shutdown, conflict, avoidance, anxiety, overwhelm, big emotional reactions, or disengagement — both for pupils and for the adults supporting them. Drawing from counselling, reflective practice, attachment-informed approaches, nervous system understanding, emotionally informed conversations, and over 25 years of experience supporting children, young people, and families, Mike brings a calm, grounded, and relational approach to conversations around school life and emotional wellbeing. Sometimes we become experts on coping before understanding what we’re coping with. Figuring Things Out…Teachers is not about blame, quick fixes, or presenting perfect answers. It is about creating thoughtful, honest conversations that support curiosity, reflection, understanding, and connection within school communities. Sessions may explore: * behaviour and emotional regulation * stress, burnout, and emotional load within education * anxiety, shutdown, and overwhelm * attachment, safety, and relationships in schools * communication and misunderstanding * identity, belonging, and social pressures * emotionally informed approaches to behaviour and support Depending on the focus of the session, collaborative sessions can also be arranged with coach and advocate Mya, bringing additional lived perspective and experience around advocacy, identity, inclusion, and racism education.

Cancellation Policy
Appointments can be cancelled or rearranged with a minimum of 24 hours notice. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, or missed appointments where no notice is given, may be charged at the full session fee. This is because the appointment time has been reserved specifically for you and is unlikely to be filled at short notice. I understand that unexpected situations and emergencies can happen, and these will always be considered with care and understanding. If you are running late, please make contact where possible. Sessions will usually still need to finish at the agreed time to avoid impacting other appointments. Appointment requests made through the booking system are subject to confirmation to reduce the risk of double bookings. For children and young people attending for the first time, a Free First Steps Call should be booked before arranging counselling sessions. PDF copies of the counselling agreement and relevant paperwork will be sent before your session. By attending the session, you are agreeing to the counselling contract and working agreement. Any questions can be discussed beforehand or at the beginning of the session.
