Figuring Things Out...
Figuring Things Out… brings together workshops, programmes and resources for parents, children and young people, schools, professionals and communities.
Each offer creates space for honest conversation, shared understanding and practical ideas that can be shaped around the people taking part. This is not about tick-box solutions or telling people what they should do. It is about exploring what may be happening, strengthening relationships and finding approaches that feel useful in real life.
Figuring Things Out… is separate from counselling. Workshops and programmes are educational and community-based activities rather than counselling or group therapy, and taking part does not create a counselling relationship.
You can view and book the workshops and programmes currently available below. If you cannot see what you are looking for, or would like to discuss something designed around the needs of your group or organisation, please get in touch.
Figuring Things Out...
...For Parents
What Works for Your Family
A supportive workshop that helps parents look beneath the everyday pressures of family life and think about what matters most in their own home.
This is not a tick-box parenting course or a list of rules to follow. It is a space to reflect, share experiences, feel heard and explore approaches that fit you, your children and your family.
...For Children & Young People
I design workshops that give children and young people space to explore the changes, questions and challenges that can come with growing up.
Sessions can focus on transitions, friendships, identity, confidence, belonging and group support. Each workshop is shaped around the age, needs and experiences of the children taking part, with activities designed to encourage conversation, connection and mutual support.
...For Teachers & Professionals
These workshops create space to think about what may be happening beneath a child’s behaviour and how the adults around them can respond with greater understanding.
The focus is not on quick fixes or behaviour-management techniques. It is on relationships, emotional safety and mutual respect, helping staff consider practical ways to strengthen connection and support children in their care.
...For Partnerships
I work alongside organisations to design workshops, programmes and learning resources that reflect their purpose, audience and values.
This has included consultancy work with My Self Management, developing youth wellbeing modules, and my work through Cawdor Community Centre, where I have helped create community programmes such as LEVEL UP! Ready for Secondary, supporting children as they prepare for the transition to secondary school.
Each partnership begins with a conversation about what the organisation wants to achieve, who it hopes to support and what would make the work genuinely useful.
“I’ve known Mike since 2023 on the Counselling Diploma. Having transitioned from education into counselling, Mike combines strong interpersonal skills with a natural ability to listen, understand and support others.”
“I just wanted to thank you for all those times when I was feeling down. You really have made a difference in my life.”
What people say
Reflections from clients and colleagues
“Our son has worked both 1 to 1 and in a group setting with Mike over the past year… An increase in confidence has been noted in school, at home and by family. He puts into practice techniques learned with Mike day to day.”
“The workshop created a safe space where parents could share their experiences without judgement and gave us tools to navigate changes at home.”
Partnerships
I also work alongside organisations to develop workshops, programmes and learning resources shaped around their audience, purpose and values.
This can include designing new material, adapting an existing idea or contributing specialist experience in counselling, children and young people, family support and community wellbeing.
Previous work has included consultancy with My Self Management to develop youth wellbeing modules, alongside community programmes created through my role with Cawdor Community Centre.
If you have an idea, a gap in your current offer or a group you would like to support, we can begin with a conversation about what might be useful.
